The gull (Laridae) is a bird of the family of gulls that lead a marine life. Gulls can be found on any beach of the world, they are spread all over the globe. Their physique provides them with everything they need to live on the coast, they are excellent fishermen and divers.

Seagull SVG – descriptions.

Birds of this species do not differ much from each other, they are difficult not to recognize. Gulls are characterized by a contrasting body color (most often dark marks on the head, wing tips and white bottoms) and membranous legs. Gulls are medium sized birds, with body lengths of 30-80 cm and weights of 100 grams to several kilograms. Scientists suggest that the contrasting body color helps gulls remain invisible to fish as they hover over water in search of prey.

The plumage of gulls is most often white, but there are gray and even pinkish (in mating periods) shades. The abdomen of gulls remains unchanged and white, only dark spots on the back, head or wings can be distinguished. All of the above applies to adults, but young birds that have not yet reached puberty have dark stripes on their bodies that create a masking effect. This is necessary to make young animals less visible to ground predators, as they become easy prey due to their inexperience.

Within 2-4 years young birds get mating plumage. Gulls, like seabirds, have waterproof plumage. They have an abundant pillow and their feathers are coated with a special lubricant, thanks to which gulls are not afraid of water. Wings of gulls are relatively long and wide, somewhat curved during flight, and also differ with dark feathers on the edges. The tail is short, with steering feathers.

Another distinctive feature of gulls is their beak. It is straight, curved at the end and somewhat compressed at the sides. In the course of evolution, gulls’ beaks have been transformed to hold slippery fish in their beaks, with a sharp hook at the end and sharp dents at the sides of the beak.

Gulls’ legs have eardrums, which make them similar to fins and help them to move easily in the water. Gulls almost as well swim as they fly. Their diet is made up of various fish and small sea insects, which they take out directly from the water. While relaxing on the seashore, you can often see them fall into the water rapidly for their prey. Food for Seagulls SVG can be small and medium fish, crabs, molluscs, shrimps, fish waste and even grazing.

Gulls are very voracious birds. If you calculate the amount of fish eaten by one individual per day, the number is not particularly striking. But let’s take the example of 60 thousand gulls that nest on the Black Sea coast: the same day they destroy more than 10 tons of marine insects.

All birds of this species are monogamous, and the pairs are preserved for many years. During the mating period, ritual feeding takes place – males bring food for their females. The rest of the time, both of them fly for food. In addition to feeding the males also have to choose a place to build a future nest. Gulls often nest on the ground or on rocks. Nests of Seagulls SVG are built from grass, twigs and wet sand. The laying consists of 2-4 eggs, which hatch both female and male in turn. Chicks of most species of semi-nesting type are covered with grey fluff and remain in the nest for several weeks, but in some gulls, which are of brood type, they leave the nest almost immediately, several hours after hatching they are already hiding in the water.
