Reading SVG – a set of practices and procedures for working with written text and the process of working with the text, aimed at extracting information from it, the perception of the text and its understanding. In a broad sense, the process of extracting information also from any symbolic system (Braille symbols, music, etc.).

Reading SVG is not just about linking written signs to the corresponding sounds, it is a complex cognitive process in which the highest mental functions are directly involved. The process of reading includes both phonetic and semantic processes, i.e. the understanding of what has been read, while the translation of written speech into spoken language depends on the writing system, which differs significantly for alphabetic, logographic and ideographic writing. Reading is one of the means of language acquisition, communication, information and ideas exchange. It is a complex interaction between the text and the reader, formed on the basis of preliminary knowledge, experience and relations of the reader with the language community, caused by cultural and social factors. Reading also requires creativity and critical analysis. There are no laws on reading, and the reader is not restricted in reading. This helps to investigate texts during interpretation.
Reading SVG is a part of people’s communication activities, is one of the types of speech activities and provides a written form of communication.
Reading SVG instruction includes training in reading techniques (the ability to translate characters, words and sentences into their sound form) and training in real reading with the formation of reading strategy, skills of an experienced reader. The inexperienced reader, in addition to slow reading speed, rereading the text and a significant number of fixations of the eyes, characterizes the pronunciation of the readable instead of quiet reading (reading to himself), the monotony of reading, the concentration in a greater degree on the form rather than content of the text, the semantic reworking of the readable portion of the text at the end of the reading. The understanding of reading is influenced by both the peculiarities of the text – information saturation, logical structure of the text, language implementation and the expression of logical, emotional and other information of the text, and the features of the reader – the degree of approximation of vocabulary, grammar and style of speech reader to the vocabulary, grammar and style of the text, the organization of attention in the perception of the text, individual psychological features.
Book skills and habits, including the choice of topics and specific books to read and how to find them, interaction with libraries, bookstores and other sources of literature, the degree of systematicity and consistency of reading, the use of special techniques to assimilate what is read, to communicate and discuss what is learned (abstracts, to write feedback, etc.), constitute a culture of reading.
There are various reading strategies that are chosen by readers for the purpose of reading (search, orientation, essay and reading) and for convenience.
Reading SVG History
Along with the appearance of writing as a form of fixation of meanings expressed in the language of meanings, reading also appeared as a reverse side of writing as a part of communication separated from the situation of interaction “here-and-now”. Initially, the main spheres of application of reading were the sphere of economic activity (accounting and control), in which reading fixed the system of power relations, the sphere of religion, where “sacred texts” supposed selective reading (in special time, by special persons) as one of the main components in cult practices, and the sphere of literature, which supposed reading of the text in different degrees of ritualized spaces.
For the development of reading practices and procedures, the emergence of alphabetically based phonetic systems of writing, which made it possible to read the text without knowledge and understanding the meanings of the units forming it, was of great importance, which made it possible to change the system of learning to read and expand the circle of readers who have mastered at least elementary literacy.
