Black Friday SVG is Friday after Thanksgiving in the United States. It’s the start of the traditional Christmas sales season. The custom of organizing sales on this day was established in the XIX century, and the term “Black Friday” appeared in 1966 and was initially used mainly on the East Coast of the United States. Due to the fact that Thanksgiving falls on the fourth Thursday of November, Black Friday falls between 23 and 29 November.

Black Friday SVG is not an official holiday, but many employees on this day take a day off, except for retailers, as this day the flow of buyers increases significantly. On Black Friday, shops open very early – around 5 a.m., and some of the biggest retail chains open even at midnight. The first buyers are offered serious discounts – from 50 to 80% – in order to attract as many customers as possible to the shops.

The term “Black Friday” first appeared in Philadelphia and meant heavy traffic jams on the roads on Friday after Thanksgiving. The modern interpretation of this term in English is more positive – it is connected with the idiom “in the black” (i.e. “positive balance”, as opposed to “in the red”), implying that many sellers “will be in plus” on this day.

Retail sales in the U.S.

The U.S. National Retail Federation regularly publishes sales data on Thanksgiving. The total number of buyers in recent years exceeds 200 million people; the average check is about $400.

Statistics show that about 20% of all U.S. retail sales take place between Black Friday SVG and Christmas.
