Banditry is one of the most dangerous crimes against the foundations of public administration and social society in criminal law. The criminal legislation of different states does not always provide for a specific offence of “banditry”, but the legislation of many countries has similar offences (robbery, extortion, various types of violence, etc.).
Bandits SVG History
Banda (Bande from Latin bandum) in the Middle Ages was a group of knightly and other cavalry and sometimes illegal formations; the gang was also called a group of Landsknechts (looting) – a group of persons engaged in banditry.
The term gang has become common since the Polish uprising of 1863, as the Polish rebels called their units “parties” or “gangs”. In the sense of the legal term, the word gang used by some Western laws, such as the French one, corresponded to the term gang in imperial Russia.
