Alcoholic beverages (Alcohol SVG) – beverages containing ethanol (ethanol, alcohol).

There are many varieties of Alcohol SVG beverages, most of which are produced by fermentation. There are regional preferences with regard to alcoholic beverages: for example, beer is a favourite drink in Belgium and sake is a lot in Japan.

In addition to drinking alcohol directly, alcoholic beverages are used for cocktails and cooking: in marinades, stews, fruit desserts and other dishes.

The concept of “alcoholic products” is used in merchandising and in determining taxes and excise duties on goods.

Types of Alcohol SVG

Alcoholic beverages include low alcohol products made by fermentation of sugars or starch-containing products and high alcohol content products made by distillation of products with low alcohol content. Sometimes the amount of alcohol in low alcohol products is increased by adding distillation products, especially in the case of wine. Among these fortified wines are port and sherry. Mumble also belongs to this class.

The manufacturing process used (as well as the alcohol content obtained) determines the product to be produced.

For beer, a relatively short (incomplete) fermentation process and the same short ageing process (a few weeks) are used, and as a result the alcohol content usually does not exceed 3-8%. The wine has a longer (full) fermentation period and a relatively long ageing period (months or years, sometimes decades), resulting in an alcohol content of 7-18% (sparkling wine is usually made with a small portion of sugar before bottling). Distillation products are not usually made of beer, and these products are not aged until the end of distillation.

Vodka is made by diluting alcohol with water; some types of vodka are supplemented with various aromatic and flavouring ingredients. Vodka of usual quality is made of alcohol-restificate, but higher quality vodka is made of grain alcohol-distillate.

Use in cooking

Strong alcohol, such as liqueurs, can be added to the ready meal, the weaker one is usually added before cooking (except for champagne and vermouth). There are alcoholic marinades in which ethyl alcohol is combined with acids and oxygen, giving dishes a special taste, as well as alcoholic-sugar fruit preservatives. In this case, the ready-made dishes of alcohol usually do not remain at all or there are only very small doses of it. Another application of alcoholic beverages is flambing, i.e. adding strong alcohol to the dish and setting it on fire. In some dishes, a small amount of alcohol is added before serving: in this way, a little madera is added to the ready-made consomme. Desserts such as tiramisu, eggnog, traifle, sillababab, cranahan, sabayon and others often contain alcohol as an ingredient.
