If you are a connoisseur of architectural monuments, you have a direct way to Connecticut! Many of the state’s cities are open-air museums. New England’s colonial-style houses, more like castles, and snow-white churches make a strong impression on tourists.

Connecticut SVG Attractions

Apart from the truly magical architecture that can be seen in almost any city in the state, Connecticut is famous for its picturesque nature. For hikers, there’s plenty of room to walk around, or rather, to disperse. If you’re one of those tourists, you should head west to Connecticut SVG. There, along the border with the neighboring state of New York, lies the Taconic Ridge, part of Appalachian Mountains. The highest peak here is Mount Bear Mountain. Its height is 708 meters. And this is exactly where one of the most popular hiking trails in the U.S. – the Appalachian Trail – passes. It starts in Georgia and runs through the states of North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut…

Another hiking trail runs through the rocky Metacomet Ridge and crosses the Connecticut River Valley. The maximum altitude reaches 312 meters above sea level!

Supporters of quiet rest should go to the south of the state. Along the coastline of Long Island Bay, the ideal sandy beaches stretch 350 km. For tourists with children, it’s the best thing!

Mark Twain House in Hartford

You’ll find a three-storey Victorian-style house in Hartford with a lot of tourists around it, you know: it’s Mark Twain’s house. I think the writer needs no introduction. Here Twain wrote The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Yankee of Connecticut at King Arthur’s Court, Prince and the Poor. Because of financial problems, the writer moved to Europe, and when he returned, he no longer lived in this house.

After Mark Twain’s death, the mansion was a residential building, a school and a library. And only in 1962 it was recognized as a national historical monument.

By the way, there are other sights in Hartford that deserve attention. For example, the most beautiful building in the city is rightfully considered to be the Connecticut Capitol, where the state administration is located.
The building is built of marble and granite, its dome is lined with gold sheets.

In 1972 the Capitol was declared a national historical architectural monument of the USA. Bushnell Park, where the Capitol is located, is the heart of Hartford. Here the citizens have a rest and have fun, come to listen to the performances of orchestras on the open stage, watch the performances of the summer theater. In the park there is a gallery of Pump House, where works of modern artists are exhibited.

The first church of Christ

Tourists go to Farmington to see the First Church of Christ. It was built in 1771 and was used as a meeting house. From the high bell tower you can see the surroundings for several kilometers. In 1975 the church was included in the list of the most important sights of the USA.

Mystic Port Village

In this reconstructed port village, visitors of all ages cannot hide their smiles. In the famous “Mystic” oceanariums you will see whales, seals, penguins and many other inhabitants of the aquatic world. And the seaport sends you to the 19th century and guides you through the ancient sailing ships.

New Haven

This city of Connecticut is famous for the birthplace of George W. Bush, the 43rd American president. And in the early 18th century, Yale University started working in the city, which is still considered one of the most prestigious universities in the United States.

Among the graduates of Yale University there are 49 Nobel Prize winners and five US presidents!

Connecticut Casino

As in Louisiana, Connecticut has legalized gambling. Here you will find the so-called Indian casinos. The largest and most profitable in the U.S. Foxwoods Casino Resort in Ledyard and Mohegan Sun Resort & Casino in Montville. Like Las Vegas’s famous gaming establishments, the local casinos attract visitors not only with their games, but also with concerts, boxing and other entertainment.
